Latta Plantation

Historic Latta Plantation was a successful early 19th century cotton farm.  Today it features hiking, equestrian trails, picnic areas with grills, boat rentals, and fishing.  The park is home to Latta Place (the historic home and farm) and the Carolina Raptor Center.  5225 Sample Road, Huntersville. Lowe’s Motor Speedway  

Home to NASCAR racing the major events throughout the year are the three NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series events, two NASCAR Busch Series races and a NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series that are held on the 1.5-mile superspeedway. The Richard Petty Driving Experience and the Fast Track High Performance Driving School also use the track extensively throughout the year.  Other events are also features on a weekly basis, including regional, national, and international races.  The Speedway is located at 5555 Concord Parkway South, Concord. Queen’s Landing

North Carolina Auto Racing Hall of Fame

The museum is dedicated to all types of racing.  It features over 35 race cars on display, the Goodyear Mini-Theater, and many showcases and displays.

Schiele Museum of Natural History and Planetarium

Energy Explorium at McGuire Nuclear Site

An energy information center where visitors can have fun learning about nuclear power, how to use energy wisely and discover how electricity is generated.  The activities feature hands on exhibits, interactive games, a movie detailing the history of Lake Norman and a mile long nature trail. Visiting hours are Mon-Fri 9 am until 5 pm and Sun noon to 5 PM. Admission is free as well as free parking. Handicapped accessible. Picnic tables on site.
